I stand in awe of my sister again. I also stand corrected. She got a standing ovation.
Yesterday at school the students had their last assembly. This is the time when the students get together for athletic and academic honors. Bre entered the gym with the rest of the students but she was told to sit in a chair down on the floor not up in the stands. When the track coaches got up to honor the athletes that performed well during the year they told of a girl that set several records in the wheelchair division back in 1995. Those records have held ever since — until now.
Breanna broke not just the shot put record, as I previously thought, but also the 800 meter wheelchair and 400 meter wheelchair records in the 4A division in the State of Louisiana. She was called forward to accept a plaque honoring her for breaking these 3 records at the Regional competition and then turning around and breaking her own records at the State competition. The coaches had tears in their eyes and the student body gave her a standing ovation.
All I can say is “THAT’S MY SISTER!”
Also honored was a freshman female runner on the team that set a new record in the mile. Sounds the Benton Track team had a great year.
